Our Trip to Georgia

One of my favorite parts about being a parent is reliving my own favorite childhood memories. I love creating and sharing first time experiences with my kids. It is rewarding on so many levels.
On June 22, 2011, the kids experienced their first plane ride. Their Uncle Jared was graduating from Army Basic Training in Columbus, Georgia. We were excited to be a part of this experience with him. The kids were so ecstatic to ride on an airplane.

The best part about this experience is that Grammy came with us. We just love our Grammy. 😀

The drive was beautiful from Atlanta to Columbus.
By the time we got to the hotel it was time for a bath and bedtime. I’m blessed with such loving kids.

The next morning we were up bright and early to get ready for the Turning Blue ceremony at Fort Benning for Jared.

Jared was the Guide during the ceremony so he carried the flag.

Jayson and Jay both took part in the ceremony.

After the ceremony we had lunch at Peppers BBQ. I didn’t really care for it at all, but it was a hit with the guys. They ordered ribs. 😉

That evening we went to see the Chatahoochee River.

The Chatahoochee River flows through or along the boarders of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.

This little munchkin is a carbon copy of me. She not only looks like me, but she has the same personality. Love her.

After our walk along the Chatahoochee we decided to go to The Cannon Brewpub.

It consisted of two main areas, a bar side dining area, and a pizza side dining area. The pizza side dining area was quieter and had more of a family oriented feel. It had a wood-burning pizza oven and a 1920s Mathushek piano player. We tried a sampler of their home brewed beer and the kids had their very first root beer float. 🙂

It was back to the hotel and to bed for an early rise the next morning. We headed to the National Infantry Museum in the morning to attend Jared’s United States Army Infantry Graduation Ceremony.

The band was really entertaining. They played several patriotic songs. My favorite was God Bless America.

They did an event called Infantry Squad Demonstration that was really cool. The squad used different colored smoke to mask their movement as they approached the stands.
Photobucket

They went over each infantryman and talked about their job, equipment, and what type of weapon they carry.

Then came the Trooping The Line event. Jared is in Echo Company 1st Battalion 19th Infantry Regiment.

Needless to say we are all proud and love our Army Soldier. With Jayson being a Marine he is very proud his brother has followed in his footsteps by joining the military.

God bless America!!
